Climbing In Giona
The climbing field of Plaka Sykia in Giona rises above the village of Sykia Fokida. This is one of the best fields in Europe, as Plaka Sykias in Giona, is the largest right slope in Greece, but also in the Balkans.
It is a vertical rock of 1,100 meters, which starts from the top of the Pyramid of Giona (altitude 2,510 meters) and extends to a length of many kilometers with successive peaks, all over 2,300 meters.
It was first conquered in 1959 by the late G. Michailidis, a legend of mountaineering.
Climbing In Achaia
In Achaia the most important climbing fields are two: the Black Mountains in Kalogria and Alepochori in Erymanthos. Both are close to the house in Monodendri, have easy access by car, are functional most days of the year and offer high climbing emotions.
Kalogria is mainly a field that has sport routes (sport climbing), without, however, missing the traditional technical routes with two ropes.
It has over 80 routes and their scores range from 5c-8b +. All routes are secured with boards and permanent relays.
The rock is very good quality limestone, sometimes gray positive and sometimes white negative, while in some fields it has a lot of negation (cave)
The development of the routes ranges from 30 meters and reaches up to 70 meters in height (field "Strofilia"). It has a very easy, educational climbing 5-6a + in the field "School" but also hard routes of the class of 8a in the field "Panagia".
We meet the field on our right as we approach from Araxos to Kalogria. The best time for climbing is from the end of October until March. After climbing, ideal end of the day in Alykes Achagias, for food in the tavern of Vassilis Goumas.
